Juvenile Defense

Contra Costa County, California Juvenile Court Attorney

866-586-4306 or 925-939-6400

The rules of criminal procedure are different in Juvenile Court than they are in other courts. As an experienced Walnut Creek, California juvenile delinquency lawyer, I am very knowledgeable in the different rules and procedures that apply to juvenile crimes in all California counties, including Alameda and Contra Costa. I am David J. Larkin, Attorney at Law. I have been a criminal defense lawyer for 25 years, and I am an aggressive advocate for the rights of minors charged with criminal offenses. Contact California juvenile defense lawyer, David Larkin, for a free initial consultation to discuss the defense of your child or dependent.

I defend minors charged with any type of criminal offense. Typical juvenile cases I handle involve the following:

  • Juvenile delinquency
  • Underage DUI
  • Shoplifting
  • Theft
  • Assault
  • Weapons charges
  • Other juvenile crimes
  • Record expungements

Juveniles charged with committing crimes are not entitled to certain things that adults are. In Juvenile Court, rather than a jury, a judge decides the case and instead of a bail hearing, there is a detention hearing. A detention hearing is held to determine whether the minor should be held in custody or release to their parents and if they should become a ward of the court. An individual may become a ward of the court, but still be released to their parents.

As a skilled Alameda and Contra Costa juvenile defense attorney, I work to secure a favorable outcome for my clients. Because the primary goal in California juvenile cases is the rehabilitation of the minor, penalties often are more severe for the crimes. I work to achieve alternative options to having my clients sentenced to the Youth Authorities (State prison equivalent), where they can be held up to 25 years of age. I work to achieve placement of the child outside of the home, if necessary, or for home supervision.

Home supervision is an option where the minor is either monitored through electronic monitoring - Jen monitoring, or monitored regularly by a probation officer. If the individual is monitored by a probation officer and is convicted, that officer will provide a detailed report and recommendation of sentencing to the judge.

Throughout my years of experience representing minors charged with criminal offenses, my firm has worked with clients to vigorously defend their interests. Contact my California Juvenile Court law firm 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
